You think it might change. Remember the first time, the shock of it? Then came the "I'm sorry" over and over, it will never happen again. And it didn't, until the next time. The cycle goes on and on. You find yourself doing and saying things you'd never thought you would do or say. You are a speck of dust in his eye and he flicks it away anytime it annoys him or makes him itch. It will never change. Not....ever. That is the first step in what seems like an endless process....think hard and think long, admit to yourself even if you won't admit it to anyone else, it will never, ever, ever change. It will never, ever, ever get better. You have to start planning to get out, get out safely.

Surviving lethal domestic violence may be the most heroic thing you do in your lifetime. Everyone should know the signs of possible lethal domestic violence that are common in most lethal situations. Domestic violence can turn lethal without any signs. This list should not be used as a measurement of your situation. If you are suffering from domestic violence, there is no reason to wait for these signs before getting out.
